Welcome
Sacred Heart School
opened its doors to 236 children, at school levels Kinder to Third grade, on
August 21, 1963. At present we have about 930 students from PK to 8th
grade. Since our establishment, our school is directed and spiritually
guided by the Vincentian Fathers. The administration of the school is
Bernardine—Franciscan Sisters. The staff is composed of 60 state-certified,
lay teachers, with four teacher’s aides at the Pre-kinder level. Sacred
Heart School is dedicated to offering quality education in an atmosphere of
Catholic values, balancing a child’s educational foundation, both
spiritually and academically.
Faculty and Staff
The faculty of Sacred Heart School consists of sixty (60) teachers, all
qualified, certified and experienced in their fields. They are distributed
as follows: four (4) PK teachers with four (4) teacher’s aides; thirty-two
(32) classroom teachers specialized in Religion, Social Studies, English,
Spanish, Science, and Math. We also have specially-qualified teachers for
Art, Music, Computer, Health, Physical Education, Science/Math Lab, and
Reading Lab. We also have on our staff a full-time Counselor, a Dean of
Discipline and a Nurse who are available for children in all grades. In
addition we have a Nursery for children from ages one and a half to three
years of age, attended by four teachers and teacher’s aides.
Governance
Sacred Heart School has a Director, a Principal, a
Vice-Principal and Coordinators for each subject area. Meetings are arranged
with the Director, when necessary. Informal meetings are held daily. The
Director is on the premises almost every day where he can be easily reached.
Staff meetings are held once a month, but divisional meetings
are called periodically. Grade meetings are set for time after school, e.g.
Pre-Kinder and Kinder meet to discuss needs, events, curriculum,
audiovisuals, etc., very often. This also happens with each grade level. We
have meetings when needed, retreats, socials and other activities, so that
we can be renewed in mind, spirit and body.
Each January and February all teachers are asked to evaluate
their work, materials, time span and progress. We then set our goals for the
purchase of materials, etc. as the budget allows, so that all can benefit,
students and teachers. Teachers are encouraged to be honest in their
evaluations, enthusiastic in their work and happy in their ministry. Plans
are signed by a weekly visit to the classroom. Walk-ins are done at any
time.
The Principal and Vice Principal are eager and ready whenever
the need arises. Every one encourages Random Acts of Kindness.
Students are encouraged to be Peacemakers through various
activities as they interact with each other in class, on the playground,
etc. This is then announced on the intercom each day before prayer time. Any
one caught doing good, Student, Teacher, Worker, Parent, at whatever
task, is acknowledged and rewarded. Everyone tries to catch someone doing
good.
We do have discipline reports which are used sparingly.
Everyone has choices to make, and responsibilities, from the smallest
student in Pre-Kinder to the Principal and the Director. We all share in the
work. We have Shared Responsibility; we all take part in
upholding the rules and regulations of our school.
The students come to the
office more for treats than for discipline.
